This week we celebrate the nation's political independence from Britain, as July 4th marks the date the Declaration of Independence was adopted as a statement of freedom and a symbol of the United States of America, 235 years ago.

Little did our founding fathers know what independence really meant! Freeing slaves... women voting and running for high office... and freedom of sexual expression.
