The other statement that Quinto made was that he came out, after playing a gay character on stage, in honor of the 14-year-old gay youth (Jamey Rodemeyer) who committed suicide after being bullied because he was gay. After Quinto revealed his homosexuality in a New York magazine article, he then wrote on his website: "It became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality.”

As for that road ahead... Why it is such news when a personality comes out of the closet... even in the 21st century? Sadly, that makes a statement too.
