As for talent, he's had a successful acting career. Appearing now in the Wizard of Oz prequel Oz, the Great and Powerful, to mixed reviews, Franco has been someone to watch since he was in the quirky cult TV series Freaks and Geeks. Since then, he's been in some notable films (Spider-Man and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, including noted or award-winning performances as James Dean in a TV bio pic, Harvey Milk's lover in Milk, and the mountain climber who cut off his hand to escape after a rock climbing accident in 127 Hours.
Also, in other roles, he's been a spokesperson for Gucci, a prince, a stoner, an Oscar host, a Blue Angel passenger, and he was named the Sexiest Man Living (2009).
Oh, and there's the new art film inspired by the infamous 1980's movie Cruising, which had some very raw images from a leather bar. Franco's film, Interior Leather Bar, is based on 40 minutes cut from the original movie to keep it from being x-rated!
So, after playing gay characters, there are the gay rumors, and Franco is quoted to have said that he finds more dimensions to the characters than their bedroom proclivities. But he also said, "Or, you know what, maybe I’m just gay."
He's also said, "The worst downside, and I don't consider this a downside, the worst thing that anybody could say is that I was gay and if somebody said that I guess they would be wrong, but I also wouldn't care and as far as being typecast, that's not the case, nonetheless I would be happy to play 100 gay roles as long as they were always good parts."
Speaking of good parts... Take a look at more of Franco's very photogenic parts here:
