When "Cruising" Turns Ugly

Apparently, being gay has different levels of acceptance on different islands down there, and the Celebrity Summit Cruise ship, chartered by gay tour operator Atlantis Events, did not warn everyone that gay sex was illegal in this island nation. The buggery charge was eventually dropped, but the couple pleaded guilty to indecent exposure and were released after paying $4,000, but not after spending some time in a Dominican jail, where they were locked in a prison cell that smelled of feces and urine for 19 hours with “no light, no water, no toilet.” They also said they were "taunted all night long" and "paraded" around like their were some "oddity"... “I’ve never seen people chanting and protesting in the street. It was amazing... They were going to transport us to a medical facility and have us medically examined...” (Sadly, dare I say, some gay men pay $9,000 to dress up in leather, travel to foreign city, get crammed into dank, dark spaces, get whipped and paddled, humiliated with medical devices, and paraded around other men who taunt and cheer.)
